It’s fall. The leaves are starting to change color, the air is getting colder, and the days are getting shorter. I spent the weekend getting lovely fall produce from the farmers market and making applesauce and broccoli cheddar soup. It’s nearly time for NaNoWriMo and I’m feeling like hunkering down indoors and doing lots of writing while drinking warm beverages.
Today also marks the beginning of Mercury in retrograde, which means all sorts of things, but for Virgo gals like me, it especially means tending hearth and home. Mercury in retrograde often has me pull back as far as social events are concerned. I retreat because I know that communication often goes awry and I’d rather not deal with the consequences. I become more reflective and nostalgic and I wonder what lessons my past self can teach me. This time, I’m focusing on creating new and healthy routines, especially finding a time each weekend to go grocery shopping, do laundry, clean, cook, and prepare for the week ahead. I’m focusing on finishing a novel I started five years ago.
This time of year always provides me a sense of wonder. Beautiful living things go into hiding for a while, turn inward, hibernate, but with promise to emerge in the spring healthier, more vibrant than ever. I’m turning up the jazz, drinking up some tea, and trying to quiet my mind. Over the last couple of months, I’ve had some really rough stuff to deal with, but determined to learn from it and leave it behind so that I can move on and grow out of these experiences.
