Love A La Carte: Summer Fun

3 July, 2014

Love A La Carte features all the little things that make my life just a little more delicious.

The idea of a Friends Con! How awesome would that be?! I would love to see folks cosplay the famous friends, listen to panels discussing the show, and meet the actors. I freely admit that I still have a girl-crush on Jennifer Anniston. She is one classy babe.

Since I’ve been watching the Office (US) through again from the beginning, this 5 Lessons I Learned from Loving the Office post was more than appropriate reading to accompany my rewatch.

On why you’re never too old to play in the dirt. It makes me feel connected to the earth and all living things. It’s fun. It’s messy. It has beautiful results. That being said, I need to get together this terrarium that I’ve been meaning to hang in my bedroom for months. It’s got seeds for succulents, which I absolutely adore. If you’re looking for something similar, I found a few nice ones on Etsy (one | two | three). It’s a great place to start for someone who lives in an apartment and doesn’t have any earth of their own, or equally nice for someone like me, who is just starting out taking care of plants. Easy and simple and beautiful.

I love this list of 7 Simple Tips to Take Care of Yourself This Summer. Self care is so important and these few reminders really help encourage us to stop and smell the roses. It’s important to enjoy life while we’re living it. I would add a few things to this list, including: take some photos of the great times at the beach, backyard barbecues, and open air concerts; savor the summer fruits and vegetables while they’re in peak season; enjoy the long days by getting out in the evenings for walks or sit around a campfire after the sun has gone down. You won’t regret it.

Frozen drinks. I had an especially good strawberry coconut daiquiri recently and was reminded how much I love them. There will be more of those in my future this summer, I think.

Spotify’s #ThrowbackThursday Playlist this week is all about the United States and, since tomorrow is Independence Day, I’m enjoying getting in the mood to celebrate with Lenny Kravitz, Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Lady Antebellum and more. And while we’re on the subject, here’s the most wonderful version of the Star Spangled Banner I’ve heard in a long time – perhaps ever.

Making plans to visit my family in New England for Labor Day. It’s been far too long since I’ve seen them and I can’t wait to visit! It will be a nice little getaway, since I’m going for a long weekend.
